About the Artist
When you arrive at Memory Lane Inn in Tyler, you will immediately notice the exquisite hand painted ceilings, trim, and wall art throughout. During a period spanning more than three years, Theresa Cheek added touches of beauty with her knowledge and experience of art and paint. She applied techniques that were learned through studies with major artists from Europe and the United States. Theresa has traveled to Europe for more than a decade to observe other artists and to recharge her creative batteries. She has studied with Lucretia Moroni of Bergamo, Tania Seabock of San Francisco, and attended lectures and classes by Dean Sickler, George Zaffle and Pierre Finkelstein. Theresa studied under Jean-Luc Sable of Versailles and Alison Woolley of Florence in July of 2010. She has met and attended conferences with Christian Martincourt, Michel Nadai, Nicola Vigini and many other decorative artists. She specializes in ornamentation and many times, makes her own paints using beer and dry pigments. Her passion is recreating deterioration of european art through lime washes, rottenstone, fresh paints and age old methods. There is much to be learned from the 12th and 13th century artists and she tries to limit her tools and paints to their recipes and executions. Theresa is a member of the PDPA (Professional Decorative Painters Association), IDAL (International Decorative Artisans League) and was featured on the cover of the ID-Digest magazine for April 2010. Theresa is an artist, traveler, and collector with a BFA in Art History. She is a lover of all things Italianate and a francophile at heart. |
